Psalms | Made for Joy
I love the Psalms. I love them because they’re honest. I love them because I can relate. There are some days I can declare with confidence, “You are my Lord; I have no good apart from you" (Ps. 16:2). There are other days when the only question I can manage is, “Why are you so far from saving me?" (Ps. 22:1). It's amazing to me, the entire range of our human experience is right here in this beautiful book. We find poems and songs, prayers and meditations, laments and praises, all of them refreshingly honest and wonderfully rich.
Most of all, I love the Psalms because they show me a God who is not afraid of my questions, but who stands ready to receive them; and more importantly, ready to receive me. In doing so, he reminds me why I was created in the first place. For joy. For everlasting delight. For Him.
This is why I’m excited to begin our new series on the Psalms called "Made for Joy.” Over the next five weeks we’re jumping headfirst into all the Psalms have to offer us as followers of Christ. We will examine the purpose of why we were made, what to do when we fall short, and how God graciously picks us up and draws us to Himself time and time again. Join me as we begin this journey at Midweek on Tuesday night, August 21st at 7:00pm. See you there!
